How to Apply

We are not actively recruiting new graduate students or postdocs this year. That said, we’re always happy to hear from prospective lab members at any career stage. Feel free to reach out below and we’ll keep your information on file for future openings.

M.S. students

  1. Read through our Research page and our publications on Google Scholar to see if your interests overlap with the lab’s.
  2. Email Michael a brief introduction: your research interests, relevant experience, and what draws you to the lab. Attach a CV.
  3. If there’s a good fit and potential for available funding, we’ll set up a call to talk further.
  4. Apply to the UW-Madison Department of Entomology graduate program by the relevant deadline, and note your interest in the lab in your application materials.

Ph.D. students

  4. Apply through one of two graduate programs, depending on fit: the UW-Madison Department of Entomology graduate program, or the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (EEB) PhD program. Note your interest in the lab in your application materials.

Postdoctoral researchers

Reach out by email with a CV and a short description of your research interests and career goals. If you’re interested in applying for your own fellowship (e.g., NSF PRFB, USDA NIFA postdoctoral fellowship, Smith Fellowship), I’m glad to discuss potential projects and provide mentorship on the application well before the relevant deadlines.

Undergraduate researchers

UW-Madison undergraduates can reach out directly by email with a short note about your interests and availability. No prior research experience is necessary.
